Omega 3 launch

Reading Scientific Services Ltd celebrated its twentieth birthday at IFE with the launch of new testing services for Omega 3 fatty acids. Scientists at RSSL can now quantify these important ingredients in a range of food matrices, and use the test results to substantiate labelling claims. This new work augments RSSL's existing services, which include tests for vitamins, minerals, sterols, stanols and other ingredients vital to the development of functional foods.

The development of functional foods is one of many changes in the food industry that RSSL has witnessed in 20 years of business, and helped to pioneer. Through the new product development services offered by RSSL LinTech, the company has helped many clients to incorporate new functional ingredients into established brands, without compromising the taste, texture or performance of these products.  RSSL LinTech has also worked extensively on the use of sweetener formulations and flavours to taste-mask unwanted flavour characteristics in novel functional products.

The company has also responded to industry needs by developing new analytical methods for quantifying functional ingredients in finished products, which can then be used to substantiate labelling claims.  The new methods, such as those for omega-3 fatty acids, launched at this year's IFE, have been developed in response to the industry's desire to utilise new and exotic ingredients in a wider range of products.
