Until recently, a very limited number of solutions existed to develop reduced or zero calorie products that were completely naturally sweetened. However, with European regulatory approval expected within the next two years for Rebaudioside-A to be used as a sweetener and with Biovittoria recently receiving GRAS status in the US for their Luo Han Guo based sweetener then the number of options is slowly increasing. These natural sweetener extracts give food and beverage manufacturers the long awaited opportunity to offer naturally sweetened, reduced-calorie or even zero-calorie products to their consumers.
