Proficiency Testing: Foodstuff
FAPAS (Food Analysis Performance Assessment Scheme)
Organised by the Proficiency Testing Group at CSL.
FAPAS provides proficiency testing for the chemical analysis of foods in a wide range of categories:
- Typical instrumental procedures: e.g. gas chromatography, high performance liquid chromatography and trace element analysis.
- Proximate and nutrient component analysis: e.g. Ash, fat, nutritional elements (sodium, potassium, zinc calcium, etc.).
- Those of analytical difficulty: e.g. organic contaminants such as 3-MCPD, allergens, vitamins and nitrate.
FAPAS is UKAS accredited proficiency testing number 0009.

FOSFA (The Federation of Oils, Fats and Fats Associates)
The Federation of Oils, Fats and Fats associates was formed in 1971.
FOSFA is a professional international contract issuing and arbitral body concerned exclusively with the world trade in oilseeds, oils, fats and edible groundnuts.
RSSL is a FOSFA Advance Analyst (D1) and are accredited and recognised by FOSFA as being able to perform all the mandatory and optional tests in each section. This is monitored by participation in a performance and accreditation test programme (mandatory and optional tests).
Tests include: Titre, Insoluble impurities, Free fatty acids, Iodine value, Moisture and volatile matter, Colour, Softening point, Admixture, Glucosinolate & Oil content.
