Training for food's forgotten workers

 15 Jun 2009

RSSL Food Training is to offer weekend and night-time training courses as part of its in-house portfolio. The move further establishes RSSL's commitment to running bespoke courses for food manufacturers in disciplines such as HACCP, food safety and auditing, at a time and place that suits the customer. A recent survey conducted by RSSL Food Training confirms that companies prefer the idea of training in-house, because it provides time and cost savings when compared to sending trainees off-site. RSSL Food Training has now committed entirely to providing in-house courses.

"Night-shift and weekend workers are easily overlooked for training, especially when Human Resources staff work the traditional nine to five," says Lyndsey Wright of RSSL Food Training. "It isn't easy to take workers off the night-shift for a day-time training course, so RSSL Food Training has decided to bring its courses to our clients at times that fit in with their own working practices.

"Having run many of our courses overseas, and in different time-zones, it's quite easy for our trainers to adapt to catching the morning shift at 6am on a Monday, or the weekend night shift at midnight on a Saturday. Staff who work these shifts often find it hard to adapt to a training course that is held during the 'normal' working day. By receiving training during their usual working hours, employees are more likely to remain alert and learn more from the experience."
