Particle Characterisation Services
Investigating particle size and morphology can be vital during product development and particle characterisation is a valuable tool for quality control and solving problems during manufacture.
At RSSL Pharma, the particle size distribution (PSD) of powdered, granulated material and emulsions, is determined using the Malvern Mastersizer 2000. Using light scattering technology this instrument is able to measure particle/droplets in the size range of 0.02μm to 2000 microns.
The attainment of a specific particle size distribution is of crucial importance in obtaining the most desirable physical properties in many pharmaceutical products, whether powders, emulsions or suspensions.
Measurements of PSD can be supported by Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) to investigate the shape, surface features and aggregation of particles, as well as light microscopy and image analysis techniques.
