Pharmaceutical Product Identification

Investigation of capsules and pills can be carried out by RSSL's Microscopy Department.  Using a combination of Fourier Transform-Infrared Spectroscopy (FT-IR) and microscopy techniques, pharmaceutical products can be examined and identified.

RSSL uses an extensive database of pills and capsules to help identify/analyse them by their shape, colour and markings.

Drugs of abuse in the form of powders and plant materials, for example, cannabis can also be analysed in collaboration with the analytical chemistry department.
