Commodity and Speciality Oils
The market for premium oils has grown rapidly over recent years and these oils can be subject to adulteration with a variety of cheaper oils. It is also possible that oils can become contaminated with other during manufacturing, processing and transportation.
Checking the authenticity of oils used or supplied by you can be crucial to the development of a due diligence defence and can protect you from fraud.
Our Lipids Laboratory has considerable expertise in detecting the adulteration and contamination of commodity and premium oils. We are one of the few laboratories that can perform the chemical methods of analysis required to authenticate olive oil to the EC Commission Regulation No 2568/91 and amendments.
Other oils include borage, evening primrose, sesame, almond and walnut.
We have developed a reliable DNA screening method for identifying adulteration of basmati rice.
The EU Commission Regulation 1549/04 includes nine basmati varieties: Basmati 370, Taraori, Kernel, Pusa Basmati, Basmati 217, Dehradun (Type 3), Basmati 386, and Super Basmati.
Other basmati rice varieties approved by India, Pakistan, and the UK include Basmati 198, Basmati 385, Haryana Basmati, Kasturi, Mahi Suganda, and Punjab Basmati.

- Designed to validate the presence of >93% basmati rice based on the UK Code of Practice (Oct 2005) following the EU Regulation 1549/04
- Validated for all of the commercially available varieties of basmati rice
