Genotyping

DNA Our cattle genotyping service is able to verify the parentage of animals.

The law changed on 6th April 2007 with regard to cattle registration. An owner can now apply for a cattle passport at any time providing that a DNA test is done by a licensed vet to prove the dam link. This DNA test from either hair or blood must be performed by a BCMS approved laboratory.

This testing is also particularly important for animal societies who want to keep an accurate track of bloodlines and precisely match a sample of DNA taken from an animal to that of its assumed parents.

cowTesting can also be used to verify cattle passport information. Analysis can be conducted from hair, blood, tissue or semen samples.

We are one of the BCMS approved laboratories to offer this test.
