UK Recalls

**Asda withdraws own-brand noodle pouch
Asda is withdrawing its Chosen by You Chicken & Mushroom Noodle Pouch with 'use by' dates of 22 and 23 April 2013, because the product contains shellfish powder with prawns, which is not declared on the label. This makes the product a possible health risk for people with an allergy to prawns (crustaceans). The Food Standards Agency has issued an Allergy Alert.

**Iceland recalls chicken spice
Iceland is recalling its Chicken Shack - Half Chicken Chinese Five Spice 500g as the best before date on it is too far in the future. (FSA)

**Thorntons recalls Chocolate Smiles Glass Jars
Thorntons has recalled three varieties of its Chocolate Smiles Glass Jars on a precautionary basis, because some may contain small pieces of glass. If you have bought one of the products, please do not eat it. The Food Standards Agency has issued a Product Recall Information Notice.

**TRS recalls Pure Milk Powder
TRS has recalled all 400g and 1kg bags of its Pure Milk Powder because the product was repackaged in an unapproved establishment. If you have bought the product, do not consume it. The Food Standards Agency has issued a Product Recall Information Notice.

**Asda recalls its Deli Pork and Egg Slices
Asda is recalling its Deli Pork And Egg Slices from customers, because a labelling error has resulted the products being labelled with a 'use by' date of 17 August 2013 rather than 17 April 2013. Eating a product past the intended 'use by' date could pose a risk to health. The Food Standards Agency has issued a Product Recall Information Notice.

  • Thorntons recalls Chocolates Smiles in glass jars due to possible contamination with small pieces of glass
  • Iceland diced beef steak recalled due to the presence of horsemeat
  • Iceland Recalls a Batch of Chicken Shack - Half Chicken Chinese Five Spice due to incorrect Best Before Date

**From Australia and New Zealand

  • Metcash Trading Ltd has recalled Liberty Gluten Free Lamington Squares from IGA supermarkets in Victoria and Albury, NSW due to an undeclared allergen (gluten).
  • Australasian Fresh has recalled Alligator Brand Veal Ravioli from Costco stores in Melbourne, Sydney and Canberra due to an undeclared allergen (soy). Any consumers who have a soy allergy or intolerance should not consume this product and may have a reaction if the product is consumed.
  • Homebrand crunchy peanut butter, sold in 375g and 1kg jars, with a best before date of 17 January 2014 have been recalled as the peanut butter has been found to contain aflatoxins at higher than regulatory limits.

**From Canada

  • The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and Granville Gates & Sons Ltd. are warning people with allergies to mustard not to consume Cedar Bay brand Shrimp Haddock Nest. The affected product contains mustard which is not declared on the label.
  • The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is warning the public not to consume certain Cold Smoked Steelhead (may also be written as Cold Smoked Salmon or Cold Smoked Sockeye) because they may be contaminated with Clostridium botulinum.
  • The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and Canadian Certified Importer Ltd. are warning people with allergies to milk not to consume certain Trung Nguyen G7 brand Coffee 3 in 1 products. The affected products contain milk which is not declared or is improperly declared on the label.
  • The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and Osmat Imports are warning the public not to consume certain Osmat Imports brand Stuffed Eggplants products because it may be contaminated with Clostridium botulinum.

**From the US

  • Prime Food USA, 50st & 1st Ave Building # 57, Brooklyn NY 11232, is recalling Latis Brand Herring Fillet “Matiej”, Salmon Fillet Slices and Herring Fillet “Forelka” in Oil due to contamination with listeria monocytogenes.
  • Wegmans Food Markets is recalling approximately 1,100 affected units of Wegmans Food You Feel Good About Roasted Red Pepper Dip, 8 oz. tub, with a best-by date of 5/17/13, because some of the tubs may have an incorrect ingredient label that does not list milk and eggs.
  • Cedarlane Natural Foods, Inc., is voluntarily recalling one specific lot of Organics Black Bean Enchiladas because they contain undeclared milk.
  • Wild Blue Yonder Foods of Lynn, MA is voluntarily recalling 834 cases of Chappaqua Crunch GF (Gluten Free) Simply Granola with Flax & Fruit because they contain undeclared almonds.
  • Winn-Dixie announced an immediate voluntary recall of 64 FL OZ Winn-Dixie Organic 100% Apple Juice. The product is being recalled as a precaution because it could have levels of “patulin” that exceeds FDA limits.
  • Manda Packing Company, a Baker, La., establishment, is expanding its recall to include approximately 468,000 pounds of roast beef, ham, turkey breast, tasso pork, ham shanks, hog head cheese, corned beef, and pastrami due to possible contamination with Listeria monocytogenes.
  • Go Max Go Foods LLC, announces that it has taken the precautionary measure of voluntarily withdrawing a limited quantity of vegan candy bar products. These products contain the following statement on the front label: "dairy-free", which may lead to confusion for people who have allergies to milk products. People who have severe sensitivity or allergies to milk may run the risk of a serious or lifethreatening allergic reaction if they consume these products.

**EU Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed (RASFF)
The database of rapid alert notifications hosted by the European Commission has recently changed format. The weekly list of notifications has been replaced by a database, searchable by week number.  The latest notifications, or updates to previous notifications are for 24 April 2013.
