UK Recalls

  • The Wine Society is recalling bottles of its ‘Prosecco Brut i Duecento’ after reports of some bottles shattering. If you have bought the product, do not drink it. The FSA has issued a Product Recall Information Notice. (FSA)
  • Genius Foods, and retailers Asda, Morrisons, Sainsbury’s, Tesco and Waitrose have recalled the products listed below because they may contain elevated levels of gluten. The products are labelled as gluten free. This means they are a possible health risk for anyone with an intolerance to gluten. (FSA)
  • Lidl UK is recalling packs of Milbona Strawberry Cheesecakes with a 'use by' date of 12 June 2015, as they may contain Milbona Strawberry Trifles, which contain egg not mentioned on the label. This means the product is a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy or intolerance to egg. (FSA)
  • Genius Foods has recalled the gluten-free products listed below as they may contain gluten. This means they are a possible health risk for those with an allergy or intolerance to gluten. If you have bought one of these products and have an allergy or intolerance to gluten, do not eat it. Instead, return it to the store where it was bought. (FSA)
  • Asda is recalling its 180g Cooked and Peeled King Prawns, with a 'use by' date of 7 June 2015, because some packs have been incorrectly produced with raw prawns. The FSA has issued a Product Recall Information Notice. (FSA)
  • Direct Wines Ltd, trading as Laithwaite's and The Sunday Times Wine Club, is recalling bottles of 'Andrew McPherson's The Full Fifteen Sparkling Red' wine because of the shattering of some bottles. The FSA has issued a Product Recall Information Notice. (FSA)

Ireland Recalls 

  • Low Levels of Listeria monocytogenes Detected in a Batch of Burren Smokehouse Smoked Organic Salmon. (FSAI)
  • Further to FSAI food alert 2015.09, Suma has extended the recall of its Unsalted Organic Crunchy Peanut Butter to include the above additional batches, as it may contain a foreign body which could represent a choking hazard and a public health risk for those consuming the product. Point-of-sale notices will be displayed in stores that were supplied with the implicated batches. (FSAI)
  • Iswari Ireland Ltd is recalling four batches of ISWARI Chorella Powder (see table) due to the possible presence of Salmonella Rissen. The implicated powder was sold in a number of health stores around Ireland and sold online by Iswari Ireland Ltd., predominately in 2014.  Point of sale recall notices are being provided requesting customers who have bought the implicated batches to return or dispose of them.   • Distell Ltd. Recalls Batches of Pinot Grigio Wine Due to Possible Presence of Small Glass Fragments. (FSAI)

Canada Recalls 

  • Kam Wah Resources Company Ltd. is recalling lollipop candy from the marketplace because they contain milk which is not declared on the label. People with an allergy to milk should not consume the recalled product described below. (Canada Inspection)
  • L Can-Roxy Trading Inc. is recalling Roxy brand Unsweetened Coconut Cream Powder from the marketplace because it contains milk which is not declared on the label. People with an allergy to milk should not consume the recalled product described below. (Canada Inspection)
  • Live Organic Food Products Ltd. is recalling Live Organic Raw brand Garden Vegetable Crackers from the marketplace because they contain soy which is not declared on the label. People with an allergy to soy should not consume the recalled product described below. (Canada Inspection)

US Recalls  

  • Vitamin Cottage Natural Food Markets Inc., a Lakewood, Colo., based natural grocery chain, is recalling additional lots of Natural Grocers brand Macadamia Nuts as the product has the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella, an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. (FDA)
  • Walgreen Co. of Deerfield, IL is recalling Nice! Powdered Sugar Mini Donuts, because it has received consumer complaints alleging that mold was observed on some products. Consumers in possession of this product should return the product to any Walgreens store for a full refund. (FDA)
  • A Wisconsin firm is voluntarily recalling its potato salad, due to the possibility of Listeria monocytogenes contamination. (FDA)
  • Ainsworth Pet Nutrition of Meadville, PA is voluntarily recalling five varieties of Rachael Ray™ Nutrish® wet cat food, including Ocean Fish-a-licious, Lip Smackin’ Sardine & Mackerel, Ocean Fish & Chicken Catch-iatore, Tuna Purrfection, and certain lot codes of Paw Lickin’ Chicken & Liver due to potentially elevated levels of vitamin D. Symptoms of excessive vitamin D consumption usually develop within 12-36 hours after ingestion and may include vomiting or diarrhea, increased thirst and urination, and muscle tremors or seizures. Any cat experiencing these symptoms should be taken to a veterinarian immediately. (FDA)
  • Frontiere Natural Meats, LLC, a Denver, Colorado establishment, is recalling 1,640 pounds of ground elk meat that may be contaminated with Escherichia coli O157:H7 bacteria (E. Coli O157:H7). E. coli O157:H7 causes a diarrheal illness often with bloody stools. Although most healthy adults can recover completely within a week, some people can develop a form of kidney failure called Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome (HUS). HUS is most likely to occur in young children and the elderly. The condition can lead to serious kidney damage and even death. (FDA)
  • Santa Barbara Smokehouse of Santa Barbara, CA is voluntarily recalling all smoked salmon Excluding Hot Smoked Salmon from March 1st to April 8th 2015, because it has the potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women. (FDA)
  • Best Cash & Carry, 56-30 56 Street, Maspeth, NY 11378 is recalling Best Brand Green Raisin (Sunderkhani) because it may contain undeclared sulfites. People who have severe sensitivity to sulfites run the risk of serious of life-threatening allergic reactions if they consume this product. (FDA)
  • Dr. Praeger’s Sensible Foods is recalling 950 retail cases of the Gluten Free California Veggie Burger because it may contain undeclared soy. People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to soy run the risk of serious or life threatening allergic reactions if they consume this product.   Dr. Praeger’s Gluten Free California Veggie Burger has contained soybeans since its introduction in 2007 and is safe for consumption by those who do not have soy allergies. (FDA)
  • Larry’s Custom Meats Inc., a Hartwick, N.Y. establishment, is recalling approximately 529 pounds of beef tongue products that may have been shipped with lingual tonsils still attached, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced today. (USDA)
  • Big Easy Foods Louisiana Cuisine, Inc., a Lake Charles, La. establishment, is recalling approximately 93,006 pounds of both raw and cooked stuffed chicken product due to misbranding and an undeclared allergen, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced today. The product contains wheat, a known allergen which is not declared on the product label. (USDA)
  • Benedetti Farms, Inc., a Sonoma, Calif. establishment, is recalling approximately 11,670 pounds of chicken and turkey sausage products due to misbranding, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced today. The chicken and turkey sausages were wrapped in hog and sheep casings that were not listed on the labels. Hog and sheep casings may elicit allergic reactions in the rare cases of individuals known to be allergic to pork or sheep proteins. (USDA)
  • Quincy Street, Inc., a Holland, Mich. establishment, is recalling approximately 49,308 pounds of pork sausage products that may be contaminated with foreign materials, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced today. (USDA)
  • Demes Gourmet Corp., a Fullerton, Calif., establishment is recalling approximately 29,052 pounds of poultry and pork products due to misbranding, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced today. The chicken sausages were wrapped in hog casings that were not listed on the labels. Hog casings may elicit allergic reactions in the rare cases of individuals known to be allergic to pork proteins.   • Tyson Fresh Meats, a Dakota City, Neb., establishment, is recalling approximately 16,000 pounds of ground beef products that may be contaminated with E. coli O157:H7, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced today. (USDA)

Australia and New Zealand Recalls  

  • Woolworths Limited has recalled Woolworths Select Chicken & Vegetable Pies 4pk from Woolworths and Safeway stores nationally, due to the presence of foreign matter (glass). Consumers should not eat this product and should return it to the place of purchase for a full refund. (FDA)
