It’s no surprise that health and wellness continues to drive consumer behaviour in terms of food, diet and lifestyle choices. High protein, plant-based and clean label platforms are all part of this overarching trend, with consumers increasingly seeking out products they perceive to be better for their bodies and wellbeing. Even traditionally indulgent categories are getting involved, with functional or ‘healthier’ ingredients now being added to boost nutritional profile and broaden product appeal. 

Where next? Sugar reduction has recently been a major focus in the fight against rising levels of obesity - but it can’t win the war on its own. So alongside the reformulation of popular products, total calorie consumption and portion control will become equally important areas for development.
