Carole Bingley named Scientist of the Year at the FDF Awards

RSSL’s Senior Product Development Technical Lead has been honoured for her outstanding contribution to food science and innovation.

 

RSSL is thrilled to celebrate the success of Carole Bingley, who has been named Food & Drink Technologist / Scientist of the Year at the prestigious Food and Drink Federation (FDF) Awards.

The award recognises Carole’s outstanding contribution to food science and innovation, following a career spanning more than 30 years. A Fellow of the Institute of Food Science and Technology and holder of a Master’s degree in Nutritional Medicine, Carole is recognised for her expertise in formulation science, sugar reduction, sweetener systems, plant-based alternatives and manufacturing scale-up.

 

At RSSL, Carole draws on her extensive technical expertise and creative problem-solving skills to tackle complex product development challenges, taking products from initial concept and bench-top formulation through to full-scale manufacture. Throughout her career, she has helped bring hundreds of new and improved products to market, often within demanding timeframes.

Her achievements include pioneering patented sugar-reduction technology and establishing a new micro-manufacturing capability for Mondelēz in just six months. She has also supported the development of products across confectionery, protein snacks, plant-based foods and consumer healthcare, including the Grenade OREO Protein Bar, which became the category’s best-performing product.

 

Beyond her technical achievements, Carole is passionate about supporting the next generation of food scientists. She mentors RSSL technologists and Food Science students at the University of Reading, sharing her expertise and experience with emerging talent. 

Carole’s win marks two consecutive FDF Awards victories for RSSL scientists and four wins overall in the category. She follows RSSL’s Robert Griffiths, who received the award last year, with previous winners including Mark Auty and Roger Angold.

 

Held at the Troxy in London, the FDF Awards celebrate the outstanding achievements, innovation and commitment driving the UK food and drink industry forward. Carole’s recognition reflects the significant impact of her work and her continued commitment to advancing food science and innovation.
