RSSL announces partnership with food regulatory expert

Respected scientific and regulatory advisor, Nigel Baldwin, has partnered with RSSL to provide context and guidance on analytical data for new food ingredient submissions.

Working closely with the laboratory team to interpret complex dossier requirements and ensure the correct analysis is carried out to support applications.

With over 20 years’ experience in global regulatory plans and submissions, Baldwin is widely regarded as an industry authority. During his distinguished career, he has worked on more than 50 food ingredient approvals globally, advised on multiple “start-to-finish” new product introductions and is particularly well-known for his work in novel foods, food additives, enzymes and infant formula ingredients.

“This is an exciting opportunity for me to bridge the gap between the companies preparing dossiers for regulatory submission and the people in the labs tasked with providing the vital data. The endless stream of guidance documents issued by EFSA and other scientific committees means that the goalposts are constantly moving; often leaving both audiences confused as to what tests are actually required and wasting valuable time in the process.

“By working directly with RSSL and sharing my expertise, I hope to build greater mutual understanding between those who need the data quickly and those that produce it,” said Baldwin.

The partnership is an important part of RSSL’s new scientific and regulatory support service for ingredient development, as Jacinta George, Managing Director at RSSL, explains:

“Nigel is highly regarded by his peers and a source of exceptional knowledge when it comes to regulatory submissions, so we are delighted to welcome him as a valued advisor to RSSL. His arrival further strengthens our capabilities in this area; providing unique insights into the technicalities involved with successfully submitting a regulatory dossier for new ingredients and novel foods.

“We believe there is a real need in the industry for a company that can not only carry out ingredient evaluations within food matrices, analytical testing and validation to exceptionally high standards, but also has the capability to navigate and understand what is actually needed from the outset. With Nigel’s support, we are confident that RSSL will become the go-to consultancy for organisations looking for a seamless regulatory service that delivers on every level.”
